Who is behind INSPIRE
A brain health research team, a historically Black medical university, and the congregations and community organizations that make the work real.

Program leadership
INSPIRE is led by Drs. Dean and Ayesha Sherzai, neurologists and brain health researchers who have spent their careers on the question of how lifestyle shapes cognitive aging. They set the program's scientific direction and its curriculum.
Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science
CDU is the academic research partner. The university's Clinical and Translational Research Center supports the study's design, data handling, and analysis, and the CDU Institutional Review Board provides independent oversight of participant protections.
Community partners
Congregations, community health workers, and local organizations recruit, host, and lead groups. They are not a distribution channel for the program — they shape it. Session format, language, and pacing are set with them, not handed to them.
What the team commits to
- Findings return to participating communities in plain language, first.
- No participant data is ever sold or shared with insurers or employers.
- Materials are offered in the languages our communities actually speak.
- Participation is free, and stays free.
